OBJECTIVE: The smile is a response to happiness, fun or decision. It influences the attractiveness of a person and is the cornerstone of social interaction. The present study was aimed to evaluate the smile esthetic perception regarding oral corridor and dental midline between dentists, students of stomatology and ordinary people, Trujillo 2016. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective, transversal, comparative and observational study consisting of dentists, students of Stomatology of Private University Antenor Orrego and common people aged 18 to 25 years of the city of Trujillo, which were selected by a method no probabilistic. To evaluate the esthetic perception, it was used the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) from 0 -10 and in the statistical analysis and Kruskal-Wallis, Mann-Whitne U, Friedman and Wilcoxon were used. RESULTS: The results showed no significant difference in the esthetic perception of oral corridors and dental midline between dentists, students of stomatology and common people aged 18 to 25 years of age (p <0.005). CONCLUSION: Buccal corridors 0 and 0.5 mm and dental midline deviation to the right of 0 .1 mm obtained the highest averages, and buccal corridors and dental line 2.5mm deflected to the right of + 2mm, the lower average for dentists, stomatology and students aged 18 to 25 years old.
