Objective: Define whether IBMP-10 is more effective than APACHE II predicting mortality in patients older than 18 years with VAP in the emergency department and critical care of Belen Hospital of Trujillo. Methods: A cross-sectional observational descriptive study of diagnostic tests was executed for patients who satisfy the selection criteria. APACHE II and the IBMP-10 scores were calculated. Sensitivity, specificity and predictive values were calculated in addition the areas under the receiver-operating characteristic curves (AUROCs) to compare the IBMP-10 with the APACHE II score. Results: The mean age was 60.99 ± 22.4 and 51.7% (62) were female. The overall mortality rate was 36%. We chose the ≥2 as the cutoff point. For the IBMP-10 score, sensitivity was 93.02%, specificity was 76.62%, PPV was 68.97% and NPV was 95.16%. And for the APACHE II score, sensitivity was 83.72%, specificity was 84.42%, PPV was 75% and NPV was 90.28%. The AUROCs for the IBMP-10 score to predict mortality was 0.885 (p <0.001) and 0.871 (p <0.001) for the APACHE II score. Conclusion: The IBMP-10 was as effective as the APACHE II score in predicting mortality (p-value = 0.716).
