To evaluate the in vitro inhibitory effect of ethanol extract of Citrus limon (lemon) peel on methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and compare the antimicrobial effect of vancomycin. Methods. Ethanolic extract of Citrus limon peel was prepared at four concentrations: 5% (50 mg / ml), 25% (250 mg / ml), 50% (500 mg / ml) and 75% (750mg / ml). To evaluate the antimicrobial activity of C. limon, exposed to methicillin-resistant S. aureus at four concentrations of ethanol extract, using the method of Kirby - Bauer (disk diffusion), was compared with vancomycin control. Results. It was determined that methicillin-resistant S. aureus was sensitive to the four concentrations of ethanol extract, comparing the inhibition halos as Duraffourd scale. Also, average inhibitory effect of vancomycin on methicillin-resistant S. aureus corresponds to the highly sensitive group. Conclusion. Citrus limon (lemon) peel does have inhibitory effect in vitro on methicillinresistant Staphylococcus aureus, but is significantly lower when compared with vancomycin.
