Introduction: knowledge about biosafety represents an important weapon against hospital accidents, health personnel are the most affected compared to the general population and of them medical interns represent an important group because they are still in medical undergraduate. Objective: To identify the factors associated with the level of knowledge about biosecurity in medical interns of two hospitals in Chimbote -Ancash, 2017. Materials and methods: A observational cross-sectional study was carried out using a validated survey in 62 medical interns from the Hospital Eleazar Guzmán Barron Regional and Hospital La Caleta of Ancash, the survey contained 15 questions on the knowledge of Biosecurity measures. Results: 53.2% were men, and the overall mean age was 23.50 years. 51.6% belonged to the Regional Hospital Eleazar Guzmán Barrón and of all only 9 mentioned having suffered an accident within the hospital. 58.1% had an average level of knowledge and 41.9% high, and those who were in the upper third in undergraduate had a high level of knowledge. There was a significant association between the level of biosafety knowledge and the occurrence of hospital accidents (p = 0.043) and the location in the undergraduate program (p = 0.007). Conclusion: The factors associated with the level of knowledge about biosafety in medical interns was the location in undergraduate and the occurrence of intrahospital accidents.
