To determine whether ultrasonographic differentiation between acute appendicitis perforated and non-perforated in pediatric patients at the Regional Hospital of Trujillo. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We performed an analytical, observational retrospective cohort study, which evaluated 66 pediatric patients divided into two groups: Group I (33 patients with perforated appendicitis) and Group II (33 patients with non-perforated acute appendicitis), all underwent surgery the study period between January 2008 to December 2013. RESULTS: With respect to the ultrasound findings as study groups was observed that the presence of abscess, loss of echogenic submucosal layer and presence of appendicolith in Group I were present in 45,45%, 75,76% and 60,61% and in Group II were present in 21,21%, 39,39% and 33,33% respectively (p < 0,05, p < 0,01 and p < 0,05 respectively). CONCLUSIONS: There ultrasonographic differentiation between acute appendicitis perforated and non-perforated in pediatric patients; the presence of abscess, loss of echogenic submucosal layer and appendicolith were significantly greater extent in patients with perforated appendicitis than in nonperforated.
