Background: At present, cesarean section (CS) is performed frequently, and delivery with CS is associated with complications in up to 15% of the cases. The surgical site infection is a serious complication and a major cause of morbidity pospartum, prolonged hospital stay and higher costs of care generates. Objective: To determine the risk factors associated with surgical site infections in patients treated the cesarean, at the Gynecology and Obstetrics Service of the Hospital Belen de Trujillo. Material and method: A analytical, retrospective, observational and case-control study The sample size was 64 patients for cases and 64 for controls. During January 1st, 2012 to December 31st, 2013. I analyzed the sociodemographic and ginecoobstétricas well as risk factors for acquiring post cesarean SSI. For description of categorical variables and the frequency used for quantitative variables, the mean and standard deviation. For the inferential analysis used the odds ratio and chi square test. Results: The average age of the cases was 26.61 years, 75% were cohabiting, and the average parity was 0.97 births. It was found as risk factors: OR Obesity 9533 (CI 4196- 21658) and prolonged RPM OR= 4.480 (IC 1.389 - 14.451) y P= 0.007. Not identified as risk factors for chorioamnionitis and prolonged surgical time. Prophylactic antibiotic therapy resulted beneficial in preventing infections, showing a failure rate of 9.4% Conclusions: Both obesity and prolonged RPM are risk factors for acquiring a surgical site infection after cesarean section. No significant association between chorioamnionitis variables, absence of ATB prophylaxis and prolonged surgical time was found.
