The objective was to determine whether acute kidney injury is a risk factor for mortality in patients with septic shock. A case study of hospitalized patients and controls in the Department of Medicine, Department of Emergency and Critical Hospital Belén Trujillo of January 1, 2008 until December 31, 2013 was performed. Following randomization, 52 patients were included as cases and 103 patients as control. In the total population the mean age of the patients was 63.16 ± 22.51. With regard to the gender distribution in the total population 89 (57.4 %) were women and 66 (42.6 %) were male. As relates to the place of origin is noted that in the general population Trujillo (31.61 %), El Porvenir (11.61 %) and Florencia de Mora (8.39 %) are the main points of percentage. Arterial hypertension (19.13 %) , Diabetes Mellitus (13.91 %) and pulmonary fibrosis (10.86 %) were the comorbidities that were observed more frequently in the general population in the group of cases were the main comorbidities arterial hypertension (18.18 %), Diabetes Mellitus (17.17 %) and pulmonary fibrosis (11.11 %) and in the group of controls arterial hypertension (19.85 %) , chronic bronchitis (12.21 %) and Diabetes Mellitus (11.45 %) were the main comorbidities. The main sites of infectious patients in the general population were the focus Throat (48.39 %), skin and soft tissue (20 %) and Renal (12.26 %). After the statistical analysis it was found that acute kidney injury increases 2,164 times the chance of mortality in adult patients with septic shock. (OR.2.164, 95 % CI, 1085-4316). It was conclud
