Determine if anemia is a risk factor to mortality in patients with inmunodeficiency human virus infection at Victor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital. Methods: Was conduced a analitic, observational, retrospective, cases and controls investigation. The study population was conformed for 135 patients with inmunodeficiency human virus infection in order to inclusion and exclusion criteries distributed in 2 groups: death or survivors. Results: The estadistical analysis about the variables in study like risk factors were: 1) mild anemia (OR: 6.95; p<0.05), 2) moderate anemia (OR: 5.46; p<0.01), 3) sebere anemia (OR: 20.9; p<0.01).The averages of hemoglobin levels in the group with and without mortality were 10.1 and 11.9 respectively (p<0.05). Conclusions: Mild, moderate and severe anemia are risk factors to mortality in patients with inmunodeficiency human virus infection. Average of hemoglobin in death patients is significatively minor than in survivors patients. Predominate in the study males and urban origin; no significant difference between the average age of survivors and deceased.
