To demonstrate the value of pre-surgical PSA, positive surgical margins, Gleason score as predictors of biochemical recurrence in radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer patients treated at the Hospital Victor Lazarte Echegaray. METHODS: A nested case-control study was made in 40 patients who accomplish with inclusion criteria, diagnosed with prostate cancer, that have been prostatectomized in Victor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital from 2009 to 2012. RESULTS: In this study the biochemical recurrence was defined like PSA values > 0.2 ng / dl, after one year post-radical prostatectomy. From a total of 40 patients, 52.5% patients had biochemical recurrence; Chi2 analyses with P < 0.05, founded out that significant predictors, Gleason score [X2 = 11.24, P <0.01 OR = 13.81 (95% CI - 76.33 2.50)] and positive surgical margins [X2 = 3.03, p = 0.08 OR = 4.39 95% CI (0.76 - 25.20)], had statistical significance CONCLUSION: Gleason score, positive surgical margins, are strong predictors of biochemical recurrence in patients with radical prostatectomy with prostate cancer before.
