Objective: The general objective of this research is “To determine the factors associated with diarrheal diseases in children under five years of cases and controls of the Hospital Jorge Reategui Delgado - Piura, during the year 2017“ Methodology: Descriptive design study, retrospective not experimental crosssection of cases and controls in a ratio of 1: 1. The sample consisted of 126 children, 63 children with acute diarrheal disease for cases and 63 children without acute diarrheal disease for the controls, being the method of non-random choice for convenience. Results: Age was 46.03% less than one year old being the most affected and 51% female. Prematurity, in 20% for cases. Low birth weight in 17.46% of cases, malnutrition of 9.52% for cases, anemia 12.7% for cases, exclusive breastfeeding presented 74.60% of controls compared to 49.21% of cases. Overcrowding in less than 5% for cases and controls. The presence of animals with 39.68% of cases. The ground floor at 26.98% for cases. The water and sewage services were in majority of the population. Prematurity, not having exclusive breastfeeding, the presence of animals, having a dirt floor and not having water or sewage service are associated with acute diarrheal disease in children under 5 years of age. Conclusion: Prematurity, not having exclusive breastfeeding, the presence of animals, having a dirt floor and not having water and sewage service are factors associated with acute diarrheal disease in children under 5 years of age.
