Analyzing the experiences of the relatives of an oncological patient in the process of early grieving was the object of this qualitative research, with a phenomenological approach. The scenario was the Las Mercedes Regional Hospital, during the year 2019, where 08 relatives were interviewed, the technique used was the in-depth open interview. The speeches obtained were classified in 09 units of meaning: The cancer punishment of God, the tragic thing of seeing a loved one suffer, hiding the diagnosis to the patient, Faith and hope in the midst of pain, fighting against the death of a family member, receiving the devastating news of the diagnosis, accepting the inevitable loss, imploring mercy, guilt before the disease. The findings reveal what it means to be a relative of an oncological patient in the process of anticipating grief, what he feels, how he lives his fears and fears towards the death of his loved one, in that dark world he tries to find the reason, why , who is responsible for his illness, many times he is silent, he isolates himself, he wants to be alone, he thinks about everything he loses from this disease, the great turn that his life takes, they lose their dreams, goals, they face loneliness, to a long and painful treatment, to see those who love suffer and not be able to do anything to heal them.
