Objective: To determine the association between diabetic peripheral neuropathy and clinical factors in patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Material and methods: Observational cross-sectional analytical study in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus scheduled for endocrinology outpatient consultation between January and February 2024. The variables of interest will be obtained by means of a data collection form, including sociodemographic data, laboratory results, examination results and results of the Michigan test for peripheral neuropathy. The magnitude of association of the variables with the calculation of prevalence ratios was estimated (PR), with 95% confidence intervals, using logistic regression analyses. Results: It was found that female sex (aPR 1.26, 95% CI 1.03 – 1.54, p = 0.02), time of disease greater than or equal to 10 years (aPR 2.11, 95% CI 1.64 – 2.72, p < 0.001), history of hypertension (aPR 1.37, 95% CI 1.04 – 1.79, p = 0.02) and HbA1c value greater than or equal to 7% (aPR 1.88, 95% CI 1.31 – 2.70, p = 0.001) were factors independently associated with an increase in the prevalence of diabetic neuropathy. Conclusions: Sex, time of illness, history of hypertension and glycated hemoglobin value are factors associated with diabetic neuropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
