The water deficit has an impact in regions where the presence of meteorological phenomena plays an important role in the irrigation area and water demand of the population. Drought is considered one of the phenomena with the greatest impact and author of the consequences before a water deficit directly affecting the agricultural sector, this being the main economic support of the high Andean regions. Therefore, the optimization proposal began to work with the delimitation of the Coata river basin through the HEC-HMS software to be able to recognize the geomorphological characteristics of the study area, thus delimiting the basin in 5 subbasins. All this information collection was extracted from 10 existing and enabled rainfall stations within the Coata River basin over a 50-year period (1971-2022) with the final result being the available supply, required annual volume and water deficit. Finally, we analyzed 3 scenarios that will reduce the water deficit; the first scenario is based on the construction of a dam in the Lampa sub-basin in order to store water in the rainy months (Jan-Apr) resulting in an unsatisfied demand. The second scenario proposes a water transfer between the Lampa River and the Cabanillas River simulated in the WEAP program, resulting in an unmet annual demand. Finally, the third scenario proposes the implementation of a sprinkler irrigation system, resulting in the most efficient for the entire Puno region.
