Prison architecture is a material response to the need to punish and rehabilitate individuals who violate social order and balance. In Peru and Latin America, detention centers only serve as spaces for punishment and isolation, with many deficiencies and limitations in terms of social reintegration. The search for a more effective system for rehabilitation is important, especially for underage offenders whose willingness to change is usually more positive. Starting from the objective of using the prison architecture itself towards this end, I proposed the design of a Juvenile Diagnosis and Rehabilitation Center (CDRJ) in the district of Carabayllo, emphasizing its Neuroarchitecture and spatial configuration. The goal was to use the design to influence the behavior of inmates in positive ways, contributing to their rehabilitation. To do this, I investigated the topic of neuroarchitecture, its recent discoveries and key concepts. In addition, I researched current rehabilitation programs and users within the Peruvian juvenile penal system, as well as prison architecture in general, from a historical, psychological, and philosophical perspective. I compiled information on regional and international references of my typology and similar ones, analyzing similarities, successes and failures. Investigating and analyzing the information allowed me to build profiles of the project users, as well as their needs and adapt the program accordingly. I managed to define replicable neuroarchitecture guidelines, such as spatial configuration, natural variables, and neuro-inclusivity. Using them for the conceptualization and design of the project. Finally, considering the requirements of the program and the security demands of the center, I was able to design a CDRJ that meets adequate habitability, spatial quality, and also that its architecture contributes to the well-being of their users and foster the rehabilitation of the youth.
