Traffic congestion is a problem found in many cities. This problem generates considerable economic, environmental and social losses, in addition to directly affecting the driver, causing delays and stress. The present investigation seeks to reduce travel times in public transportation vehicles at the intersection between Abancay and Miguel Grau Avenues. It is proposed to reduce travel times through a redesign of the geometry and a new traffic light cycle. For the construction of the solution design, we started with the delimitation, description and data collection of the area under study. This was followed by the characterization of vehicle behavior in the area. Subsequently, the current state was represented by means of a calibrated and validated micro-simulation model. Based on this, a new design for the geometry and a new traffic light cycle was proposed using the HCM 2010 methodology. In the redesign proposal it is verified that travel times decrease by 2.39% for all vehicles in the intersection; while for public transport vehicles travel times decrease by 7.73%. On the other hand, an increase in the level of service was obtained in the North and South accesses, main accesses where public transportation vehicles circulate, going from a level of service F to E. Finally, a comparison is made of the study area projected for 5 years without proposal and with proposal, with the purpose of verifying the viability of the proposal taking into account the population increase of the city; in which it was seen that the growth had a minimum impact on the travel times of vehicles, being the increase in the scenario without proposal of 4.72% and in the scenario with proposal of 1.73%
