The identity of an individual involves multiple dimensions, such as gender, sexual and ethnic that are represented through language. This research focuses on the audiovisual translation of the film Moonlight (2016), where we will study how African American homosexual masculinity is represented through the Latin American Spanish translation of African American Vernacular English (AAVE) and language related to sexuality. The present research will analyze the Latin American Spanish translation of AAVE and language around sexuality to represent African American homosexual masculinity in the subtitling and dubbing of the film Moonlight (2016). This study focuses on how the language of the film Moonlight (2016) portrays the protagonist's ethnic and sexual identity by exploring the influence of AAVE and vocabulary related to sexuality. It will also analyze translation techniques that will determine to what extent they affect the representation of these identities in Latin American Spanish, which in general the suppression of certain linguistic elements can limit the full representation of the characters' identities.
