The aim of this research is to examine the effectiveness of macroprudential policy in reducing the banks’ risk of insolvency in Peru from 2011 to 2021. The macroprudential tools being analysed are capital requirements, reserve requirements in national currency and foreign currency and, the dynamic provisions. The results suggest that macroprudential policy has been effective in reducing the insolvency risk of banks, even during a stress period such as the COVID-19 pandemic. It is found that capital requirements and reserve requirements in both domestic and foreign currency are statistically significant. However, the opposite is true for dynamic provisions, which may be due to their brief period of requirement, as their activation conditions depend on the economic cycle rather than the financial cycle. Additionally, it is found that some banks’ characteristics lead to a lower exposure to insolvency risk, such as activity level and capitalization ratio. In contrast to the findings of the analysis conducted prior to the occurrence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the size of the bank and the financing structure were not variables that influenced the financial stability of the banks.
