This research analyzes the textual genres called clinical guidelines, produced in the United States, and “Guías de Práctica Clínica”, produced in Peru, focusing on the macro and microstructural characteristics. The objective is to demonstrate the influence of English on medical texts in Spanish by identifying the differences and similarities of both textual genres. Medical texts exemplify this influence since English is the lingua franca of medicine. The importance of this research for translation studies lies in the fact that translation strategies and methods are influenced by the peculiarities of the textual genre, which raises the question of what the macro and microstructural differences and similarities between both textual genres are. The research assumes that the macrostructural and microstructural elements could present changes, similarities or autonomous elements due to factors such as the priorities of each country, new medical terms or a similar communicative intention. The objective is to provide information and evidence on the influence of American English in the transmission of information and style in the development of “Guías de Práctica Clínica” in Peru. To conduct this analysis, theory is considered as “more”, according to the concepts of Anfara and Mertz. Theoretical categories such as textual genre, macrostructure, microstructure, medical translation, and comparable bilingual corpus are used to identify and analyze the linguistic and cultural influences in medical communication, highlighting the adaptations and differences between texts from developing and developed countries.
