Informal employment in Peru has evolved into a globally recognized issue, with both social and economic implications that indicate a growing trend in the years ahead. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate whether there is a direct influence on the choice of informality by home-based businesses, drawing upon an explanation rooted in the theory of asymmetric information. To conduct this research, the year 2019 is taken as the study period, and data from the National Household Survey (ENAHO) is utilised to construct economic indicators integrated into Logit and Probit models. The results of these models reveal that various factors influenced the likelihood of belonging to the informal sector in 2019, including age, years of education, gender, and membership in the commerce, manufacturing, and women-related services sectors. However, one of the most notable findings is the direct relationship between business location and informal employment, especially in the case of home-based businesses. Additionally, it was observed that women's participation in the mentioned sectors varies significantly.
