The purpose of the present study was to determine the psychometric properties of the Emotional Eating Scale (EES) in peruvian adults. The sample consisted of 410 people between the ages of 18 and 30, who live in Lima Metropolitana. The EES and the Emotional Eating subscale of the Food Cravings Questionnaire Trait (FCQ-T) were applied. To assess the validity based on the internal structure of the instrument, a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed based on the original scale, from which inadequate fit indices were obtained. For this reason, a review and analysis of the items was carried out, obtaining a new model from which two CFAs were performed, and from the last analysis a two-factor structure (Anger-Anxiety and Depression) was obtained with adequate fit indices and acceptable reliability values: Anger-Anxiety (α and ω= .72) and Depression (α and ω= .75). The result of the linear regression analysis between the factors of the proposed model of the EES and the Emotional Eating subscale of the FCQ-T indicate statistically significant predictors and explain a median of emotional eating (R2ajusted = .23). It is concluded that the EES has adequate psychometric properties for its use in the study sample, however, larger studies are required to confirm its structure in other samples.
