Introduction and objectives: This study related academic stress (stressors, symptoms and coping strategies) and proactive personality in young university students. Material and method: The sample was 176 young university students (71% women) from Metropolitan Lima who also had a job. Their ages ranged from 18 to 25 years old (M = 22). The Cognitivist Systemic Inventory for the study of Stress (SISCO) and the Proactive Personality Scale (PPS) were used. Results: The results show a positive correlation between the proactive personality and one of the dimensions of academic stress that were the coping strategies (r = .90, p < .001). Conclusions: The results of this study show that a more proactive personality allows the person to use coping strategies to stress.
