Very little is known about the correlation between the surrogate marker, Visceral Adiposity Index (VAI) and pulmonary function. To this date, there isn't a study that correlates these two variables in the Latin community. This is why the goal/purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between VAI and pulmonary function in adults with obesity. Methods: A secondary database was used and a lineal regression model was developed to evaluate the relation between VAI and pulmonary function. Results: 418 patients were included. The FEV1 pred% FVC pred% were significantly greater in women than in men. In the adjusted model, even though some minor variation was found, none of these were of significance in the study sample for neither men nor women. Conclusions: No associations were found between the VAI and the pulmonary function in this population of adults with obesity, aged 18-59 years old. More research is needed to be able to confirm the lack of connection between the variables of interest.
