Objective: To determine if there is an association between sociodemographic factors, life habits, disability and chronic diseases with the prevalence of chronic lung diseases (CLD) in a Peruvian prison population. Materials and method: Cross-sectional study, analytical design with a secondary base of the first Penitentiary Census carried out by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics in 2016. The variables were grouped into sociodemographic factors (age, sex, educational level, marital status, type of insurance). and region), life habits (drug use, alcoholic beverages, smoking before entering prison and sports activity), physical disability and chronic diseases (hypertension, diabetes and tuberculosis) and the outcome was self-reported CPE. A Poisson model with robust variances was used to calculate crude and adjusted prevalence ratios. Results: It was found that older people (OR=2.06, 95% CI:1.80 to 2.35; P<0.001) and women (OR= 1.48, 95% CI:1.80 to 2.35; P<0.001) are more likely to have CLD. Also, those who consume cigarettes (PR=1.08, 95% CI: 1.02 to 1.15; P=0.016), have physical disability (PR=1.64, 95% CI 1.52 to 1.77, P<0.001), hypertension (PR=1.96, 95% CI :1.78 to 2.16; P<0.001) and tuberculosis (OR=2.74, 95% CI:2.51 to 3.00; P<0.001) are more likely to have CLD. Conclusions: There is an association between CPE with age, sex, education level, region, cigarette and drug use; physical disability, hypertension and tuberculosis. They had no association, sports activity, alcoholic beverages and diabetes in the prison population in the adjusted model.
