This paper focuses on the use of Google Cloud machine translation (MT) in the post-editing process of two medical texts. From a theoretical point of view, the paper addresses some issues about translation in the medical field, some of its particularities that may be challenging for the translator and explains how free and paid machine translators works. Technology has led to new advances in MT systems, which are evidenced by the updates made by MT providers. Due to the high demand for translation, MT is now used as part of the post-editing process to address large translation projects. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to evaluate the use of the Google Cloud machine translator in Trados Studio 2017 tool during the post-editing process of two medical texts: a scientific article and an interview protocol. The paper finished with a positive conclusion about the use of Google Cloud MT as factors such as speed and accuracy are mentioned in some cases, although always a human poseditor is necessary for quality issues.
