This research analyzes the rhetoric of terror as a discursive strategy in the media, in electoral contexts. The relevance of this issue lies in the importance of the media in democratic societies and in their power to influence citizen decisions. Furthermore, fear constitutes one of the main drivers of collective social action. For this analysis, the representative case of the 2011 second round elections between the candidate of Fuerza Popular, Keiko Fujimori, and the candidate of Gana Peru, Ollanta Humala was taken. The study focused on observing the discursive construction of both characters through the rhetoric of terror in the Peruvian newspapers La República and Correo. It was found that both newspapers used strategies linked to antagonistic symbolisms such as "fear" and "hope" to portray both candidates according to the intentionality of the editorial line. They also use strategies such as maximizing or minimizing the past of both characters.
