Objective: Association between the level of knowledge about oral health of parents with the age of the first dental visit of their children from 0 to 9 years old residing in Lima, Perú Materials and methods: 203 parents of legal age with children between 0 to 9 years old, residing in the city of Lima, Perú, were surveyed. To evaluate the level of knowledge a questionnaire with 20 multiple-choice questions was applied, including topics such as: bacterial plaque, dental cavities, and prevention. Likewise, the age of the first dental visit was reviewed using a self- report question. Variables such as civil status, age, sex, number of childrens, among others were included. For the association of variables, the Chi-square and Fisher's exact test were performed; furthermore, poisson regression with robust variance was used, crude and adjusted prevalence ratios were reported. Results: The level of knowledge presented by parents about oral health was 83.74% in the highest category. There was a statistically significant association between the two main variables; where it is observed that children who visit the dentist for the first time between 0 to 1 years old are 1.43(IC 95%: 1.04-1.95) times more likely that parents have knowledge compared to children who never visit the dentist. Conclusions: It was found an association between the two main variables of the study, where it is observed that the parents who take their children to the dental center at an early age present high knowledge.
