The study of translation of verbal humor with cultural references and wordplay in audiovisual media is fairly recent in terms to other branches of translation studies, especially when it is related to analyzing cases in which there is humor under those circumstances. This study analyzes several cases in the show BoJack Horseman in which there is verbal humor caused by cultural references or wordplay in its source language as well as in its dubbing into Latin American Spanish, as we are interested in analyzing the techniques used in cases in which the previously mentioned elements (cultural references and wordplay) vary in the source culture and source language. This study was carried out through a contrasting analysis, with which each case of verbal humor with cultural references and wordplay in the first two seasons of the show that may present problems to translate due to cultural or linguistic matters are thoroughly examined and then classified.
