Introduction. Burnout syndrome refers to poor emotional coping resulting from the gradual stress caused by excessive work demands. It is composed of three dimensions: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and low personal accomplishment. It can affect professionals in any field, but it is especially prevalent among healthcare personnel, including medical interns, who undergo a crucial transition into clinical practice. Often, they take on job responsibilities that increase both physical and emotional stress, which detracts from their academic focus and puts them at risk of developing this syndrome. Objective: To determine the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome among medical interns at a private university in Metropolitan Lima in 2024. Materials and Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted, including 140 medical interns from the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in 2024. Results: The prevalence of burnout syndrome among medical interns at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia was 68.57%. The median age was 25 [24–26] years, with 50.71% being male and 49.29% female. The prevalence of burnout syndrome was 68.57% (n=96), of which 52.86% exhibited high levels of emotional exhaustion, 60% high levels of depersonalization, and only 27.14% high levels of personal accomplishment Conclusions: Burnout Syndrome is a common issue among medical interns at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in 2024. Therefore, further assessment is needed for its primary and secondary prevention.
