The aim of the study was to describe knowledge about exposure to Chilean recluse (Loxosceles laeta) accidents and cases of loxoscelism reported in Lima department during 2022. The knowledge information was extracted from the National Survey of Budget Programs 2022, identifying as variables: a) recognition of the spider as poisonous, b) places where it hides, c) symptoms, d) actions before an accident and (e) ways to avoid the bite. Case information was taken from the National Center for Epidemiology, Disease Prevention and Control. Spearman's correlation was used to determine the association between knowledge and incidence rate (IT). Regarding knowledge, 58.2% of respondents recognized the spider as poisonous, the most frequently reported hiding places were corners (63.6%), ceilings (43.0%), and behind, under, and inside furniture (42.8%). The most recognized symptoms were shiver, fever and sweating (52.9%), swelling (40.9%) and redness (30.9%). The most recognized preventive measures were: cleaning corners (63.5%), ceilings (45.6%) and behind, under and/or inside furniture (31.2%). Regarding cases, the frequency was higher in the provinces of Lima (51.8%), Cañete (19.3%), Yauyos (13.2%), and IT was higher in Yauyos (137.21) and Canta (34.94). A strong correlation was found between IT and four variables: a) identification of the spider, b) recognition of the place under stones, logs and clods, c) action such as taking home remedies and d) preventive measure: frequent cleaning of corners. To conclude, knowledge should be reinforced in the rural area of Lima, the population with less knowledge and greater IT is concentrated, Cajatambo, Canta and Yauyos are the provinces of greatest risk.
