Background: Photoeducation and photoprotection are terms that are becoming more important over time due to the increase in the incidence of the different types of skin cancer. Because it is a preventable malignancy, it is necessary that all doctors have basic knowledge on the subject. Objective: To describe the knowledge, attitudes and practices on photoeducation and photoprotection of students in 6th and 7th year of Medicine at the Cayetano Heredia Peruvian College. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study. We carried out the cultural validation of the “Cuestionario a pie de playa” quiz, then a pilot was applied to 60 subjects and the final survey was applied to 173 students and a retest to 105. Finally, an exploratory factor analysis was used, Cronbach's Alpha coefficient and calculation of the intraclass correlation coefficient to determine construct validity and reliability of the instrument. Results: 90,2% of the students have a high level of knowledge about photoprotection and photoeducation. Attitudes attitudes goes in line with it. However, it is not reflected in practices: more than 60% do not have the safest practices. An instrument with adequate construction validity and good reliability was obtained. A new validated survey is proposed for future research. Conclusion: Medical students have good knowledge and appropriate attitudes about photoprotection and photoeducation. However, it is not reflected in good practices.
