Background: The impact of the variables observed in this article are very subjective, which is why the information acquired from this study will help understand the “perfect smile” when it comes to a young adult public. Objective: To understand the opinion of young adults about four variables in a smile; dental alignment, smile arc, teeth color and gingival exposure in patients, to determine an attractive smile. Materials and Methods: This study is transversal, analytical and experimental in origin. A sample of 87 individuals was used, these being young people between 18 and 25 years old, residing in Lima, Peru. They were asked to assign a range of attractiveness from 1-10 according to the tampered images they were exposed to during said questionnaire. Based on this information, tables and graphs were made to appropriately display the results and reach a conclusion. Results: Among the edited images, the results showed a preference in smiles that had a B1 and A1 teeth color, while darker tones like A2 and A3 were qualified as not attractive in comparison. When referring to gingival exposure, those images with 2 mm were deemed acceptable, yet not attractive, while those with 4 mm and 6 mm, were deemed not attractive. Changes in both dental alignment (1 mm, 2 mm y 3 mm) and smile arc (88º, 93º y 98º) were not visible to the public eye, leading to no statistical significance in their results. Conclusions: People with no previous knowledge in dentistry perceived the variables; teeth color and gingival exposure the most in the tampered images, while dental alignment and smile arc had no apparent impact on the attractiveness of the images.
