Background: Oral health can be defined as a multidimensional concept that includes physical, psychological, emotional and social aspects. Nowadays, having good oral health is the starting point to achieve good health and general well-being. There are contributing factors to oral health, such as socioeconomic factors, level of knowledge of parents, degree of educational instruction achieved, among others. Acquiring knowledge at an early age is usually much more efficient; That is why teaching oral hygiene habits when they are still children is considered a critical period. Objective: The purpose of the study was to identify the knowledge and practices about oral hygiene in family members of Stomatology students at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in 2021. Methods and Materials: The study was cross-sectional, descriptive, observational and retrospective. In which data extracted from a database of 222 people between 17 and 81 years old were collected. Data processing was carried out with the Stata version 17 program. Results: Better levels of knowledge and practices were obtained in the groups of females and males sex, single marital status, level of secondary education and young life stage. Conclusions: It was concluded that it is necessary to increase knowledge about oral health and reinforce oral hygiene practices.
