The present research aimed to study palatability as well as the effect on body weight, stool quality and blood glucose level in dogs fed a dehydrated sweet potato-based treat. For this reason, the study was divided into two stages: in the first, the palatability of the prize was evaluated, where 100 dogs with an average live weight between 5 to 20 kg and an age between 2 to 10 years were required. gave the award for three consecutive days and its acceptance was recorded. In the second stage, we worked with 12 dogs (6 males and 6 females) with an average weight between 4 to 10kg and an age between 2 to 10 years, which were given the award for 10 consecutive days, previously a clinical examination and blood tests to verify that they are healthy and before and after variation of body weight, stool quality and blood glucose level were evaluated. In both studies, the amount of prize offered per day was in relation to 10% of the energy requirement for maintenance. The results obtained in the palatability study are presented in percentages without statistical analysis and in the case of the results obtained from the study of the effect of the prize on body weight, hemoglobin and blood glucose, the results were evaluated by means of the T test of Student paired, and for the evaluation of the body condition and quality of stool the rank test with Wilcoxon sign was used. 89% of the dogs accepted the sweet potato treat on the three consecutive days and only 2% did not. On the other hand, no statistical difference (p> 0.05) was found for the variables body weight, stool quality and blood glucose due to the effect of the consumption of the prize for 10 consecutive days. Concluding that the dehydrated sweet potato-based treat is well accepted by dogs and that its consumption does not affect body weight, stool quality or blood glucose level.
