The objective of the study was to characterize Disaster Risk Management (DRM) in the departments of the Peruvian jungle by evaluating the results of the 2019 National Survey of Municipalities. For this, a study was designed that corresponded to a retrospective descriptive research based on from secondary database sources, which were analyzed in the Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health Laboratory of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. Information was obtained from five departments: Amazonas (84), Loreto (53), San Martín (77), Madre de Dios (11) and Ucayali (17). 97.3% of the district municipalities installed the Disaster Risk Management Working Group. 75.6% constituted a Civil Defense Platform. 19% had Civil Defense Brigades constituted by Volunteering in Emergencies and Rehabilitation. 14.5% made up the Local Emergency Operations Center. 35.5% had a Local Warehouse of Humanitarian Aid Goods. 64.9% had a Disaster Risk Management Unit or Civil Defense Office. 77.6% registered heavy rains, 12.1% thunderstorms, 60.8% floods, 51.7% strong winds, 20.3% forest fires and 44.4% urban fires. It was determined that Ucayali was the department most capable of establishing a better DRG, reaching an average of 55.2%, followed by Madre de Dios (53.2%), San Martin (44.2%), Loreto (37.6%) and Amazonas (29.8%). It is expected that the results found will improve the DRM systems in the departments of the Peruvian jungle, in order to face possible damages or losses from the identification of risks and the taking of measures for their prevention or mitigation in future cases, and at the same time, it will consider teamwork between veterinarians and local government entities.
