--- This research work aims to determine the general level of assertiveness in nursing students at San Marcos University, identify assertiveness level, by year of research, identify the level of self-assertive and identify heteroasertividad level in general and by year of study. The study was application-level, quantitative, descriptive, cross sectional study. The population consisted of all nursing students (334) and the sample was taken comprised of 124 students. The technique was the interview and was used as an instrument, the Self of assertive behavior (ADCA-1). The conclusions reached were: nursing students of San Marcos, most have high levels of assertiveness (47%), self-assertive (47%) and heteroasertividad (51%). However, there is a significant percentage of students who have middle and lower levels of the variables studied, and in the first year of study, the largest percentage of the student has a low selfassertive (34%), followed by the third year with 26 %. Concerning the behavior of the variables by years of education, there is a tendency in the past 2 years, students have high levels of assertiveness, self-assertive and heteroasertividad unlike the early years where he would contemplate the formation of communication skills and assertiveness from the beginning of university education.
