The lack of knowledge and experience in the care of patients with COVID-19 has led to a situation of constant conceptual and attitudinal change in nursing staff, which is why this research work entitled “NURSES' EXPERIENCES ABOUT CARE OF PATIENTS HOSPITALIZED BY COVID-19 IN THE INTENSIVE CARE UNIT OF THE ADOLFO GUEVARA VELASCO HOSPITAL IN CUSCO, 2022.” The objective was: to know the experiences of nurses regarding the care of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in the Intensive Care Unit of the Adolfo Guevara Velasco Hospital in Cusco, this being qualitative research, having a sample of 17 nurses specializing in health care workers who work at the Adolfo Guevara Velasco Hospital in Cusco and who meet the inclusion criteria. The results show that patient care, protection of health professionals, rigorous implementation of protocols and constant training are essential pillars in the operation of the organization. Likewise, the importance of individual and collective responsibility, the promotion of extreme safety, the protection of personnel and the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the context of prevention measures is revealed. Furthermore, it shows the importance of solidarity, empathy, insecurity, teamwork and fear in the relationships that develop in the care team. At a personal, family and social level, a series of crucial factors influence the lives of nurses, among these elements pride, anger, helplessness, isolation and fear stand out. Within the context of the positive/negative balance that nurses experience in their profession, the influence of key factors is recognized, such as empathy, experience, support and fear. In conclusion: The importance of training, protocols, protection and patient care in the organization is highlighted, along with the relevance of biosafety. Extreme safety, responsibility, protection and the use of personal protective equipment are essential elements of the protective experience. Solidarity, insecurity, teamwork and fear are aspects present in the relationships within the personal care team, with empathy and organization being key factors in these interactions. Additionally, pride, isolation, helplessness, and fear are factors that affect courage. Empathy, experience, support and fear are elements that contribute to balance.
