Pain is always a topic discussed and often subjective, which leads to the collection of data for the health professional; That is why an adequate instrument was used to give it a value according to the established variables. The objective of this research was to evaluate the pain after the application of dental anesthetic in patients 8 to 12 years of age in the Pediatric Dentistry area of the Luis Vallejo Santoni Clinic in Cusco. We worked with a sample of 57 children who attended for their dental care and who required local anesthesia. The study methodology was descriptive, observational, quantitative, transversal and prospective. As instrument and materials was used a data collection sheet developed for the investigation, within it was evaluated with the Faces Pain Rating Scale, the process of data collection was performed using the IBM SPSS version 22 where descriptive statistics were used with frequency and percentage distribution; For the verification of reliability between variables, Chi square test was performed as a measure of significance with 95% confidence intervals. The results were described values of the Wong - Baker Pain Facial Scale, thus finding non – statistically significant results in all variables, thus showing that 42.1% of children aged 8 to 12 years stated, “it hurts a little bit“ (1), 24.6% reported “it hurts a little more“ (2), 12.3% experienced “worst pain“ (5) and 10.5% “painless“ (0) after the application of dental anesthetic. In conclusion it was determined that patients experienced pain at different scales, however there were variances between variable and variable as, the younger the greater the pain, the male experiment the greater pain the female, the more infiltrative sector with pain is the Jaw, anesthetic preheating minimizes pain if used correctly, the application of topical anesthetic gel (benzocaine 20%) correctly is of utmost importance to minimize pain, at the time of application of dental anesthetic, the Male operator projects more pain than the female operator, and that the patient's pre-anesthetic preparation creates a certain level of anxiety. According to the study of the variables the research resulted with values not statistically significant. It was also observed that the Wong - Baker Facial Pain Scale proved to be very useful and didactic. Key words: Pain, Pediatric Dentistry, Dental Anesthesia, Wong-Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale.
