According to the World Health Organization (WHO), malocclusions occupy the third place of prevalence within the pathologies in oral health, in Latin America it is not the exception, because it also has a worrying situation, with high levels of incidence and prevalence of malocclusions Which exceed 85% of the population. According to meta-analysis studies, Peru has a prevalence of malocclusion of 80.8%, of which the highest incidence is in the coast (81.9%) and the lowest incidence in the forest (78.5%) and the Sierra (79.1%) This is why the degree of malocclusion severity is intended. Objective: To determine the degree of malocclusion severity according to the dental aesthetic index in adolescents aged 12 to 16 years old at the National Educational Institution “ANDRES AVELINO CACERES“ Cusco 2016-II Materials and Methods: a descriptive, cross-sectional, observational and quantitative study was considered. The sample was 150 students, the selection was simple random probabilistic. In the first scheme a personal data questionnaire was carried out, the second one is a schematic representing the 10 components or occlusal characteristics according to the dental aesthetic index (IED) established by the WHO, measurements were recorded with the help of a millimeter probe William fox (Hu-friedy) to later use the regression equation and calculate the degree of malocclusion IED severity. Results: it was concluded that 45.3% of the total students had a normal occlusion or mild malocclusion, while 54.6% had different degrees of malocclusion severity, among which 9.3% showed very severe or disabling malocclusion, 11.3% malocclusion Severe and 34% manifested manifest malocclusion. It was also possible to determine that age and gender are not related to malocclusion, that is, it affects males as well as females at all ages.
