Stroke is one of the diseases that causes the highest mortality and disability in the world, and depression is the most frequent affective disorder seen in patients with a history of stroke; In addition, it is the first factor that causes limitation in the recovery of these patients. Objective: To determine the risk factors associated with sociodemographic characteristics: sex, age, level of education, their marital status, their occupation, and the religion they profess; Associated with depression in people with a history of stroke at the neurology outpatient clinic of the Regional Hospital of Cusco, period July - August 2022. Materials and methods: Observational, prospective, and cross-sectional case-control study, which included 162 patients with stroke, who were treated in the outpatient neurology clinic of the Regional Hospital of Cusco, an instrument validated by experts was applied, in addition to the use of the Hamilton. Results: It was observed that the patients who present greater depression are the patients who do not have a partner, having a probability 5.1 times more of having post-stroke depression; compared to patients who have a partner, who present less depression. Smoking is a habit that causes 5.7 times more post-stroke depression. The lack of physical habits is a risk factor for developing post-stroke depression. Conclusions: According to the study, it is concluded that the risk factors associated with depression in patients with a history of stroke are smoking, lack of physical activity, language disorder as a sequel, and not having a partner.
