Introduction: Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental condition that develops following traumatic events, characterized by persistent symptoms such as intrusive memories and avoidance. This condition affects 5-10% of individuals who experience trauma, including 10% of those under 18 years old, with girls being four times more likely to develop it. Objective: The objective of this study is to determine if child abuse is a risk factor for the development of PTSD in adolescents from two public schools in Cusco in 2024. Materials and Methods: This research project is a retrospective observational study aimed at establishing a relationship between child abuse and the development of PTSD in adolescents. The sample included 218 students, consisting of 73 cases (diagnosed with PTSD) and 145 controls (without PTSD diagnosis). Results: Risk factors for the development of PTSD included physical abuse (OR 1.96), emotional abuse (OR 3.14), sexual abuse (OR 10.2), and neglect (OR 2.24), all with a 95% confidence interval and a p-value < 0.005. Conclusions: Child abuse was identified as a significant risk factor for the development of PTSD in adolescents from the schools studied.
