The importance of students using a digital portfolio is that it allows them to be more active, committed and reflective in their preparation and learning, allowing them to use a variety of tools, modern technology that university students can share with classmates, teachers, develop creativity, Critical thinking and decision making facilitate the metacognitive process in the meaningful learning process. The objective of this research work was to evaluate whether the use of the digital portfolio contributes to the development of metacognition in students at the National University San Antonio Abad of Cusco. Its methodology was an applied quantitative approach, the scope is explanatory, the experimental design of the quasi-experimental type with a control group will be applied, where 100 V semester students from the Faculty of Education participated. The results of this study allow us to understand the initial state, progression and final situation of the use of digital portfolios by students as a digital tool to promote the development of metacognition. It also allows us to learn how new technological strategies promote meaningful learning through the use of reflection, critical evaluation and decision making in the learning process. It is known that at the beginning there were passive students, and with the implementation of innovative strategies, there has been a clear shift towards a more active and dynamic participation, these students are not only willing to participate more in class, but they also have the ability to solve problems posed in the context of personal reflection on metacognition.
