The objective of the present research work was to compare three ideal protein profiles in Pacos (Piaractus brachypomus) in the grower stage, using practical diets. Twenty seven juveniles of Paco (P. brachypomus) with an average weight of 191.55 ± 0.25 were randomly distributed in 9 growth aquariums at a rate of 3 fish per aquarium and fed with 3 different experimental diets; Profile 1: diet based on the ideal protein profile of the amino acid requirement of Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), Profile 2: diet based on the ideal protein profile of the whole body tissue of Paco (P. brachypomus) and Profile 3: diet based on the ideal protein profile of Teleost fish, proposed by the NRC; during a period of 42 days. Performance parameters were evaluated every 14 days establishing three cumulative experimental blocks that were analyzed with a DBCA. Mean comparisons were performed using the Tukey test. At the end of the experiment, three fish were killed in each experimental diet to determine the amino acid profile of the whole body tissue with NIRS. Profile 2 was significantly higher than profiles 1 and 3 for the parameters live weight and weight gain; while, for feed consumption, CA, biomass gain, PER and TCE, profile 2 was superior to profile 1 and similar to profile 3. The amino acid profile of the killed fish expressed on the basis of lysine was similar to the dietary ideal protein profile based on the ideal protein profile of Paco's entire body tissue.
