With the automation and remote control of irrigation in the Temple of the Latter Day Saints, we seek to implement current technology in the irrigation of green areas, also known as the Internet of Things (IoT), in order to further optimize consumption, operation times, reduce costs, and obtain greater autonomy compared to existing systems in the field of irrigation of urban green areas. This system consists of programming, controlling and monitoring irrigation in real time from a platform called IQ by Rain Bird. Being a cloud-based service, it will allow users through a free account to manage irrigation from anywhere and through any device connected to the Internet. Communication between the central computer and the LXD controller will be covered by the WLAN network provided by an ISP router. This communication is made possible by the network communications cartridge (NCC-WF) installed and configured in the controller making it a direct satellite visible to the other devices. The irrigation system includes flow, humidity and rain sensors in order to improve control of water consumption. In addition, it was important for the automation in its previous phase to start from the landscape design, which was oriented to the aesthetic-utilitarian use and the similar water requirement of 45 species zoned in three hydrozones; in this way, together with the irrigation planning, an efficient landscape design in water consumption was achieved. Subsequently, the agronomic design was carried out, from which the water needs and operating parameters for programming sprinkler and drip irrigation were obtained; followed by the hydraulic design, which guaranteed the pressures and flow rates in the system through the analysis of the network using WaterCAD software and the selection of the 7 HP pump model CRNE-32-3 with frequency variator of the Grundfos brand, in response to the different operating points of both types of irrigation. In summary, the automation and remote control will manage irrigation efficiently and will allow quick responses to requirements, unforeseen events and/or modifications that may arise.
