In absence of studies that seek to understand potato production systems in the mountains and the need to improve these systems, this research work aimed to analyze the sustainability of potato producing farms and evaluate the genotype x environment interaction on performance of fourteen potato genotypes, with pigmented pulp, in Cutervo, Cajamarca. Prior to the sustainability analysis, the characterization and typification of the farms was carried out, using, for this, the data that were collected from 165 farms through surveys that included questions related to economic, environmental and social aspects. The data obtained were analyzed using univariate and multivariate methods. The results of the analysis of main components for the characterization of the farms, show that the majority of producers are between 46 and 55 years of age, have basic education, access basic services, belong to a rural community, have an area of 1 to 2 ha, cultivated in rainfed, make use of chemical fertilizers and phytosanitary products, use seed without certification, obtain yields between 13 to 25 t ha-1, invest S/. 8,000 to 10,000 soles per hectare, they sell their production to the intermediary at prices ranging from S/.0.5 to 1.0 sol per kilogram, have monthly incomes below the minimum vital remuneration and receive training on crop management from companies that sell phytosanitary products. The cluster analysis for the typification of farms, established five type farms with homogeneous characteristics within each type farm and, at the same time, heterogeneous among them. Only farm type two, of five type farms, presented values greater than the minimum sustainability threshold in the three indicators (economic, social and environmental), characterized by being a sustainable potato production system. In the study of the genotype x environment performance interaction, the CIP clone 302295.32 obtained high yield (32 t ha-1) and low interaction with the environments, showing greater performance stability.
