The wood waste generated by the wood industry can become raw material for the manufacturing of new products and stops to be a environmental pollutant. Therefore, the present work aims to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of medium density fiberboards (MDF) produced with two types of pulp: refiner mechanical pulp (RMP) and chemi-mechanical pulp (CMP); and two types of resin: Urea Formaldehyde (UF) and Emulsion Polymer Isocyanate (EPI) from bolaina wood waste (Guazuma crinita Mart.) from a forest plantation with trees of varying ages between 5 and 8 years. To manufacture pulp, wood chips were pretreated through soaking in water to obtain RMP; and in five percent sodium hydroxide (NaOH / dry pulp (w/w)) for CMP, both for 24 hours. Regarding resins, UF was used with 65 percent solids content, while EPI was diluted with distilled water to obtain 23 percent solids content. Both resin doses were 10 percent (resin solids / dry pulp (w/w)). Four types of MDF were made: RMP-UF; CMPUF; RMP-EPI and CMP-EPI. The results showed that it is feasible to make MDF with wood wastes with a high percentage (95%) of juvenile wood and a low percentage (5%) of bolaina bark. Between the resins studied, the EPI in the MDF obtained better physical and mechanical properties than those manufactured with the UF. Both RMP and CMP had similar performance in MDF. The best properties were obtained by the RMP-EPI and CMP-EPI boards.
