The objective of this work was to develop, at a pilot level, a traceability protocol for backyard rearing in the southern area of Metropolitan Lima, which allows better control and optimization of pig rearing processes, considering that in Peru the pig industry is not as developed compared to other countries and the control and traceability programs are almost nil and/or non-existent. To present this system, the experiences obtained during the work as an identification consultant in the IDB 2019-2023 Project: "Improving the Safety of Primary Production and Processing Food" were taken into account, executed by MIDAGRI (Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation) and SENASA (National Agrarian Health Service of Peru) where the identification tag is applied to each animal owned by pig producers distributed throughout the Peruvian territory and data is collected from them. It was concluded that the traceability systems implemented should always prioritize the collection of sensitive information such as the number of producers, number of animals per producer and characterize the conditions of these breeding, in addition to developing systems that allow the reading and interpretation of these data in a fluid and orderly way.
