The study was aimed at the use of titanium dioxide (TiO2) as external marker for estimation total fecal excretion in alpacas. For which a 4 x 4 Latin square design was carried out, with four animals, four treatments and four periods, each period lasting 21 d. Four treatments were used: treatment A (TA) received 2.5 g of TiO2 / animal once daily (7:00 am), treatment B (TB) 1.25 g of TiO2 / animal twice daily (7:00 am and 4 : 00 pm), treatment C (TC) 5 g TiO2 / animal once daily (7:00 am) and treatment D (TD) 2.5 g TiO2 / animal twice daily (7:00 am and 4: 00 pm). Statistical analysis was performed using the statistical analysis program SAS 9.4 (2016) through the analysis of variance (ANDEVA) with the Duncan test, using the STUDENT T test, which was applied a significance level of 5%. The averages of stool production estimated with TiO2 versus stool production observed directly between TB, TC and TD had differences. However, in the TA, no differences were found. The percentage of TiO2 recovery was 90, 82, 78%, 52%, respectively, in all four treatments. The TD being different from the other treatments. The parameters of the TiO2 excretion pattern were time zero (a), maximal excretion of TiO2 (b), constant rate of excretion of b (c), time required for excretion of TiO2, to have excreted half of the initial concentration (half T) and the time at which the excretion balance (Ta + b) is reached; of which the values of a, c, T mean and Ta + b found no difference between treatments, but if there was a statistically significant difference of the value of b between the amounts of administration of the marker of 2.5 g vs 5 g. In conclusion, the use of TiO2 as a marker for the estimation total fecal excretion in alpacas is possible with 2.5 g of TiO2 / animal, once a day, in addition in alpacas the balance of excretion of TiO2 is reached approximately eight days after the administration of the marker and is the optimal time to estimate total fecal excretion.
