The purpose of this study is to contribute to the knowledge of the ecological niches of P. canoi and P. rodolfo-vasquezii, generating models for the identification of potential restoration areas for these species in our country. The maximum entropy algorithm (MaxEnt) was used to predict distribution models for each species based on current presence records. In the modeling, different sets of bioclimatic and topographic variables were evaluated, with the configuration of other parameters to generate the candidate models. More than one statistical criterion made it possible to select the best predictive model for the distribution of each species. The validation of these models was also complemented with trips to the departments of Junín and Huancavelica, in areas where there are no records of the species under study. The results show that temperature of the coldest month is important factor that determine Polylepis distribution. The area that represents the suitable ecological niche for P. canoi was 12 526 Km2and for P. rodolfo-vasquezii was 13 405 Km2, these areas were included between premontane forests of the Peruvian Yungas and Puna Húmeda. Within these models, other important criteria were included for the identification of potential restoration areas, which made it possible to distinguish some potential restoration sites in the department of Junín, mainly for the species P. rodolfo-vasquezii, and in the districts of the department of Cusco, mainly for the species P. canoi. Huánuco also presented important potential areas for the conservation and restoration of both species, and it is advisable to generate more records of the presence of Polylepis forests located in the localities of this departament.
