Objective: to determine the concentrations of lead and cadmium in orange juices marketed on an ambulatory basis in Canto Grande Market 10, located in San Juan de Lurigancho. Materials and methods: this study of quantitative approach and cross-sectional design analyzed sixteen samples of orange juice. Lead and Cadmium levels were determined by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry with Graphite Furnace at the CICOTOX laboratory of the UNMSM. Results: the analysis revealed that the average Lead content was < 0.005 mg/kg, while the average Cadmium content was < 0.0314 mg/kg. Both concentrations are below the maximum values allowed by European Union regulations and MERCOSUR Technical Regulations (0.05 mg/kg). Conclusions: orange juices marketed on an ambulatory basis in Canto Grande Market 10 contain levels of Lead and Cadmium within the ranges accepted by international standards. These results indicate that the concentrations detected do not represent a significant health risk according to current regulations.
