Introduction: pharmacovigilance is an activity that is related to the evaluation, detection, prevention, and understanding of adverse effects of medication or any problem that they present and cause unintentional harm to the patient. Method: a qualitative approach to bibliographic review was demonstrated, the selection of articles was carried out through an exhaustive search in academic databases such as Google academic, ScienceDirect and Scopus, using keywords such as: detection, evaluation, understanding and prevention, of adverse reactions, safety, reporting of adverse drug reactions. The representative sample was made up of ten scientific articles. Results: an analysis was obtained on knowledge management, innovation, prevention of effects, patient safety, knowledge in pharmacology, adverse effects, pharmacovigilance, adverse drug reaction systems and limited knowledge. Conclusions: the studies reviewed demonstrate that improving pharmacovigilance could encourage pharmaceutical staff to report more systematically, which would ultimately result in better quality of treatment, more rational use of medication and greater safety. of the patients.
